Halloween Party

For a Halloween party at home, let’s make Halloween food and decorate the table with jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, and spider webs. The following Halloween food recipes use vegetables for the flavor bases, and its soft taste will make everyone in your family feel warm and cozy.

■Recipe for a Spider Web Soup with Japanese Mustard Spinach and Broccoli

【Ingredients A】For a soup
・ 10g unsalted butter
・ 1/2 bunch of Japanese mustard spinach
・ 1/2 head of broccoli
・ 1/2 onion
・ 1/2 potato
・ 300cc milk or processed milk
・ 1~2 consommé cubes
・ Salt to taste

【Ingredients B】For a spider web
・ 10g cream cheese or sliced cheese
・ 1~2 tbsp milk or processed milk

【Directions】
(1) Mince the Japanese mustard spinach, the broccoli, the onion, and the potato.
(2) In a soup pot, heat the unsalted butter, add the Step 1 vegetables, and cook till soft. Set aside approximately 3 table spoons of Japanese mustard spinach and broccoli from the pot. You’ll add them later for better texture and coloring. （Adding minced Japanese mustard spinach and broccoli that are not tossed in a blender later in the process makes the color of soup vivid.）
(3) Add the milk/processed milk and the consommé.
(4) Blend the soup until smooth, and then add minced Japanese mustard spinach and broccoli from the Step 2. Now the soup is ready. For adults, separate some of the soup and add salt to taste.
(5) For a spider web, heat the milk/processed milk and the cheese in a pot and melt the cheese.

(6) When thickened, let it cool. Put the mixture into a Ziploc bag and cut a little bit of the tip of the bag.

(7) Draw a spiral on the Step 4 soup in a bowl. Using a toothpick, pull the spiral from the center toward the side of the bowl to draw a spider web. When the soup is too thick, the spiral doesn’t stretch easily. When the soup is too liquid, a spider web is destroyed. Also, the spiral may sink if the cheese mixture is too hard. Please try a few times to adjust the amount of liquid.

■Recipe for Mashed Pumpkins

【Ingredients】
・ 1/2 pumpkin

【Directions】
(1) Cut the pumpkin coarsely and microwave at 500w for 5~6 minutes. If there is some water after microwaving, make sure to discard the water.
(2) Using a folk, peel the skin and mash pumpkins. Set aside the skin for later use.

(3) Wrap the Step 2 mashed pumpkins in the kitchen cloth, paper towel, or gauze, and shape a ball form. For adults, add some salt in the mashed pumpkins to taste.

(4)Draw lines of a pumpkin on the Step 3 ball with a toothpick.
(5)Make a shape of a triangle with the skin from the Step 2 and stick it on top.

■Recipe for Ghost Rice Porridge

【Ingredients】
・ 100g cooked rice
・ 200cc water
・ Ham (decoration)
・ Ketchup (decoration)
・ Seaweed (decoration)

【Directions】
（1） Cook the rice with water in a pot.
（2） When it starts boiling, put a lid on a pot and let the porridge steam.
（3） Stewed to extract water and let it cool. Wrap the porridge in a plastic wrap to make a shape of a ghost.
（4） Make a face with seaweed and ham. For a mouth and cheeks, put some ketchup and trace it with a toothpick.

【Useful Tips】
※If your baby is trying an ingredient for the first time, please give it little by little.
※Please adjust the amount of salt depending on the progress of baby food.
※Milk can be replaced with processed milk or soy milk if your baby has never had milk before.
※These recipes are suitable for babies approximately 9 months old or older. Without the use of consommé, the recipes can be used for babies older than 8 months old.
※The use of consommé for children is recommended. There is also consommé with no additives and low sodium that you may find it in some stores.
